Running Life: A Fitness Protection Production

Coach MK (Fleming) is the founder of Fitness Protection, LLC. She is a run coach not life coach, but we're never really talking about the running! She isn't afraid to call out, and push back against, Diet Culture and its impact on her runners. She is committed to ensuring that no runner discounts their own badassery while combatting fatphobia and sizeism in the fitness industry.

This podcast is geared towards every runner who won’t lose their home or health insurance if they show up to the corral with a hangover (though we do not advise it!). Whether you are a marathoner or a hobbyjogger, you will find something to enjoy when the coaches start talking as we run through this marathon of life, together.

Diet Culture brings fear and dysfunction to the house long before our families show up. In this series, a therapist and an elementary school nutritionist will offer tips and tools to enlighten us, so we can, "Lighten Up" without *actually* setting things on fire. We can't make the world safer, but we can #reclaimourtime when it's time to celebrate with food...and family.

We're in it now: the season of giving and the season of shame. Thanksgiving only lasts for one day, and it can be an intense one! But everything from Black Friday to New Year's can feel like an endless parade of demands and performances, of holiday parties and forced social interactions we'd rather not have. What do you do when you find yourself stress-eating to cope with a situation you wish you could get out of? In this episode, we talk about the guilt that lurks behind the tidings of comfort and joy.

Whatever coping mechanisms you lean on during this season, let's examine them and honor them for what they are. Let's look at the situations that create a need for them and ask ourselves what WE need to get. And most importantly, let's remind ourselves that when we "enjoy" something while simultaneously promising to "fix" or "undo" it all with a New Year's resolution in the future, we're not actually allowing ourselves to enjoy anything.

So how do we approach these thought patterns and interrupt them? THANKFULLY, Jummy Olawale The Therapist and the School Nutrition Dietician are here to help!

Dalia Kinsey is The School Nutrition Dietitian utilizing a background in public health and school nutrition in preventative health care. Jummy Olawale is a Gottman Method Therapist; she helps couples rebuild healthy, shame-free relationships by re-framing difficult conversations. I’m hoping that today’s roundtable discussion can help us recognize the messages we are REALLY sending our kids so we can lead the way in helping them develop healthy relationships with food...and with us.
